ALICATS DANCE CLASSES

ALICATS Dance Studio was established to bring exceptional dance instruction to Flowery Branch and its surrounding areas. We offer a wide range of options for children and adults.

5 REASONS THAT
MAKE US THE RIGHT CHOICE FOR YOU

1. Smaller Class Sizes
Our smaller class sizes allow students to get more individual instruction from teachers, and as a result, progress at a faster level than in a large class environment. Our smaller class sizes also ensure that the teacher can catch any imperfections before they turn into bad habits or improper techniques.

2. Variety of Dance Styles & Methods
Highly qualified teachers with varied training and teaching methods are available to teach a broad range of dance formats. These include, but are not limited to, Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Modern, Hip-Hop, and Character.

3. Our Dance Studio Advantage - The "Floating" Professional Dance Floor
Our "Floating" Dance Floor rests on a system of high density foam to absorb the shock and impact of regular dance movement. This benefits students by reducing fatigue and preventing injury that can result from dancing on hard surfaces.

The top layer of our flooring floor is a professional vinyl composite "Marley" surface similar to the surfaces used by Alvin Ailey modern dance company in New York, and shows such as Riverdance. This Marley floor surface has a certain amount of controlled slip to allow for sliding in dance movement, but is not slippery like common tiles or wood found in most other dance studios.

4. Music and Movement Classes - for ages 3-4
From the age of 3, children are given a fun introduction to the basics of dance. This program provides a solid foundation for future success in Ballet, Jazz, Tap as well as other styles.

5. Recitals, Festivals, and Competitions
Students are given performance experience in our year-end recital. Students also have the option to participate in festivals, and competitions throughout the year.

COMBINATION CLASSES
Why are combination classes offered?
The best way for a new dancer, especially young dancers, to decide if dance is right for them is by experiencing the different styles. By combining two or more styles of dance, dancers get the opportunity to try many styles of dance at once, saving parents time and money while their dancer is deciding if dance is right for them!

Combo Classes
Ages 5 and up

By combining Tap, Ballet and Jazz, into a one hour time frame, we not only create convenience, but also give the beginner dancer the opportunity to see what the dance world has to offer. Class length is 1 hour, 1 time per week and are grouped by age.

TAP
Tap introduces dancers to musical rhythms, as well as the rhythm of their feet!

JAZZ and HIP HOP
What's the difference between Jazz and Hip Hop?
The Jazz style of dance is what can be seen in many Broadway shows such as "Cats". It is a more structured, stage style of dance.

Hip Hop is a fast, higher energy type of dance seen in many music videos and commercials. Dance moves seen in shows such as Janet Jackson, Brittney Spears, and N'Sync would be typical examples of Hip Hop.

6-8 year old Jazz/Hip Hop
This beginner program allows students to take the 2 most popular forms of dance in one class. The Jazz/Hip Hop class teaches fundamental Jazz steps and combines the elements of hip hop moves and contemporary music. We have found that the combination of Jazz and Hip Hop is ideal for this age. Students learn the necessary elements of Jazz.

9-12 year old Jazz and Teen Jazz
At these ages a student can take a dedicated Jazz class that is more focused on the stage type element of Jazz. The Jazz classes may use contemporary music similar to the hip hop classes, but the movement and routines are all Jazz based. The continuing classes are 10-12 Jazz B or Teen Jazz B. Class length is 1 hour, 1 time per week.

Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced Hip Hop
These are hip hop classes for the 9-12 years old and 13-17 year old students.Students are placed in the level of hip hop that they are ready for. As a student progresses they will move to the level they are ready for. These classes are not split by age, and can range from 10-17 yr. olds. Class length is 1 hour, 1 time per week.

Tumbling
Ages 3 and up
Tumbling is a great way to expand a dancers abilities, or teach a non-dancer cordination and skills to help them in other areas. We have classes divided by levels. Class length is 45 min. or 1 hour, 1 time per week.

Modern Clogging
Ages 7 & up
This is not your old fashioned clogging! This is the new and improved clogging, which fuses hip hop flavor with traditional clogging footwork! It is a high energy, high fun, and EXTREMELY entertaining style of clogging!

INTERMEDIATE AND COMPANY CLASSES
Ages 7 & up
Dancers who have chosen to focus more on dance may be placed in an intermediate or company class. These dancers attend more than one day of dance a week and are invited to perform at many public festivals and parades. Our company dancers will also attend competitions throughout the year.

BALLET
Ballet is the foundation of all dance. Just like in learning a sport you must know the basics before you can play the game. Ballet is what gives dancers the coordination, and ability to excel in other dance styles as well as their life.

BALLET /JAZZ TECHNIQUE
In order to truly exceed in anything you need to be well rehearsed in the basics. Ballet technique is just that. An opportunity to fine tune the basics of movement. Dancers will be taught with discipline, as well as challenged to grow to their full potential as dancers.
